The main purpose of this study is to use electrocoagulation with aluminum electrodes to remove color, turbidity, and COD of yeast wastewater. Required samples have been collected from the raw wastewater of the Naghan yeast factory located 80 kilometers from Shahrekord. In each step, 1250 ml of sample was mixed completely using a magnetic stirrer with a constant speed 150 RPM in the reactor. Different current densities including 60, 80, 100, and 120 A/m2 with 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes’ retention time have been examined. Each test was repeated three times and the average results have been reported. The best removal efficiency for color, turbidity, and COD was obtained in 80 A/m2 and 45 minutes. Meanwhile, COD removal efficiency was 60 % at 60 A/m2 and 30 minutes and 80 % for 80 A/m2 and 45 minutes. It should be noted that the removal efficiency of color and turbidity was higher than the COD. Electrocoagulation is an applicable method for color, turbidity, and COD removal in yeast industry wastewater. Utilizing the electrocoagulation method COD and color and turbidity could be decreased by 80% and 90% respectively. |
